Dr Christopher Dresser In the Style of – Aesthetic Movement Ebonised Armchair

Price on Application

This item is price on application due to its rarity and importance.

In the style of Dr Christopher Dresser, an ebonised armchair aligned to the Aesthetic Movement (1860–1900), c.1885. The chair presents a rectilinear frame with square legs, canted arms and a panelled back, the seat and back reupholstered in a durable blue fabric. The economy of line, planar panels and absence of applied ornament express the Anglo-Japanese taste that Dresser championed in the late nineteenth century. Construction and profile are consistent with period workshop practice and support a stylistic attribution rather than a signed or retailed example.
