E W Godwin for William Watt. An oak Gothic Revival armchair

SOLD

An oak Gothic Revival armchair. Design attributed to E W Godwin probably for William Watt. Its form is derived from A W N Pugins's armchairs, designed for The House of Lords. For an indentical side chair and armchair see Susan Weber Soros book, 'The Secular Furniture of E W Godwin' - page 126/127, Plate 171 and 172. I have had some some printing blocks made to the original design that E W Godwin did for embossing leather coverings on chairs he designed for Lord Limerick at Dromore Castle in Limerick. Ireland, which I have used on this chair giving it an original period look. Height 101cm. Circa 1880's.
