This pair of cast iron hinges represents the ornamental vocabulary of the Gothic Revival (1830–1880), when ecclesiastical and domestic ironwork drew upon medieval prototypes. Each hinge is symmetrically pierced with scrolling foliate motifs and trefoil terminals, the design expressing structural rhythm through pattern and void.
Painted green on one face, the hinges retain evidence of their later surface treatment while preserving the crisp detail of the casting beneath. The form and proportion suggest use on interior doors or cabinets within a Victorian decorative scheme.
