Philip Webb for Morris and Co, Marshall, Faulkner Co. The firm became Morris Co in 1875. An extremely rare Arts and Crafts Aesthetic Movement Ebonised Settee. Professionally re-upholstered in period style fabric. This settee was designed to go with the famous bobbin turned adjustable reclining armchair also designed by Philip Webb for Morris, Marshall, Faulkner Co. Those elegant timeless recliners were based on a design from an earlier traditional prototype found in the workshop of an old carpenter named Ephraim Colman in Herstmonceux, East Sussex. UK by George Warrington Taylor in 1866 the business manager at that time for Morris Marshall, Faulkner Co. He drew a sketch and wrote a description of the chair and sent it to Philip Webb who adapted it for production by Morris, Marshall and Faulkner 1861-1875. A rare Morris and Co day bed also designed by Philip Webb from the same suite sold at Christie's Auction House London (sale number 1115) for 30K on 1st May 2013. H 35 in. x W 57 in. x D 27.5 in.
