POA
Thomas Jeckyll, made by Barnard Bishop and Barnard. A rare Anglo-Japanese brass fender with pierced Japanese style decoration and adjustable air vents to the sides. This fender relates to the Sunray fireplace fender also by Jeckyll. Jeckyll designed the Peacock Room owned by the British shipping magnate Frederick Richards Leyland in Kensington. London where the Sunray fender was used with Jeckyll's famous sunflower fire dogs. Jeckyll became ill during this commission and James McNeill Whistler took over decoration of the room which ended in a famous court battle between the patron and the designer.
