Charles Locke Eastlake (attributed). A Reformed Gothic stained oak cabinet, the architectural roof with arched and turned supports, 249cm high, 122cm wide, 63.5cm deep See Spencer, Charles 'The Aesthetic Movement', p. 35, illus 17 for a similar example. An architectural roof style detail to furniture is an earlier detail and quite rare and was being used by only a few designers of the Gothic Revival/Reformed period particularly Phillip Webb in the Red House, on the settle Rossetti and Burne Jones never quite finished painting and another roof style on the Red House dining room dresser. It was also used by Richard Norman Shaw on his famous secretaire bookcase exhibited at the 1862 International Exhibition and more especially by Burgess on furniture and fireplaces throughout the interiors he created in his life including his own.
