Edward William Godwin (after). A walnut square occasional table, made by Bruce and Smith, circa 1880, on ring-turned supports with an undertier, 70cm high, 40.5cm square. GodwinÆs original design for these coffee tables was plagiarised by many manufacturers of the day, many much inferior in design and quality. This particular variation has its own merits and is one of the better copies of the period. See Soros, Susan Weber 'The Secular Furniture of E.W. Godwin', p. 72, illus. 47 for the original.
