Dr Christopher Dresser for Hukin & Heath A silver plated sweet meat dish or sugar bowl Stamped on base - "H & H - 2074" Dr Christopher Dresser was one of the most important, independent and successful British designers of the late Victorian period. He was a pivotal figure in both the Aesthetic Movement and the Anglo Japanese style, visiting the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876 en route to Japan in 1877 to study art wares and locate goods for Tiffany & Co. in New York and for Liberty of London. His designs for Hukin & Heath on his return in 1878 were radical and a concentration of the best designs of his career.
